Kimberly Marten, the Olin Professor of Political Science at Barnard College and deputy director of Columbia University's Harriman Institute will present “Is Another Cold War Inevitable? Observations on Vladimir Putin's Foreign Policy," at Lafayette College.

Kimberly Marten, the Olin Professor of Political Science at Barnard College and deputy director of Columbia University’s Harriman Institute will present “Is Another Cold War Inevitable? Observations on Vladimir Putin’s Foreign Policy,” 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 in Colton Chapel at Lafayette College.

Her talk, sponsored by the Class of 1961 International Speaker Series, is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in the lobby at Kirby Hall of Civil Rights.

Marten specializes in international relations and international security. Her research focuses on warlords and militias and their relationship to sovereign states and state security institutions, in places ranging from Afghanistan and Iraq to the former Soviet Union.

An expert on Eurasian politics and affairs, she has provided commentary to major international  news organizations including the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Huffington Post and more. Marten was a featured guest on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central, covering a range of topics centering on the Russian military intervention in Crimea and what Vladimir Putin needs to do to quell escalating international tensions. She has also appeared on NPR’s Fresh Air, PBS’s Charlie Rose, and CNN International.

In addition to the Class of 1961 International Speaker Series, Marten’s talk is sponsored by the Department of Government and Law, the International Affairs Program, and the Russian and East European Studies Program at Lafayette.
