Global conservation scientist and television host Dr. M. Sanjayan will present “Saving Planet Earth” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14 in Colton Chapel at Lafayette College. He will speak about ways to make an impact within our community and beyond as the final guest in the Social Justice Speaker Series. The talk is free and open to the public.
Sanjayan (@msanjayan) is an Emmy-nominated news contributor and host of the 2015 PBS TV series Earth – A New Wild produced by National Geographic, and was a correspondent for Showtime’s Emmy-nominated series on climate change, Years of Living Dangerously. He serves on Conservation International’s senior leadership team as executive vice president and senior scientist.
His peer-reviewed scientific work has been published in journals including Science, Nature and Conservation Biology and his expertise has attracted national media coverage in Outside, Time, Men’s Journal, National Geographic, Afar, Grist and the New York Times.
Sanjayan’s visit kicks off “Greening Lafayette” initiatives April 14-23 at Lafayette, aimed at engaging the Lafayette community in environmental issues through education and action. Student-led organizations are coordinating campus events on conservation, sustainability, food sourcing and organic practices with Lafayette’s LaFarm and dining services’ provider Bon Appétit, as well as featuring “LaFill,” an interactive waste display on The Quad.
