Area children and community members are invited to audition for the fall production of “The Secret Garden” by the Lafayette Theater Department at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 in the Studio Theater of the 248 N. Third Street building, part of Lafayette’s downtown Williams Arts Campus.
Directed and choreographed by theater professor Mary Jo Lodge with musical direction by Tom DiGiovanni ’96, “The Secret Garden” will run from Wed., Oct. 26 through Sun., Oct. 30 in the new Weiss Theater of Buck Hall on N. Third St., Easton. Rehearsals will take place Sunday through Thursday evenings.
For more information, contact Prof. Mary Jo Lodge via e-mail, lodgem@lafayette.edu or phone, 610-330-5662.
To Audition: Prepare 1 minute of a song that shows off your range, preferably from a musical (not pop or rock style). Children and community members should bring music if possible, but can come without it. A pianist will be provided. Actors of all ethnicities and backgrounds will be considered.
The musical is based on the 1911 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett; book and lyrics by Marsha Norman, music by Lucy Simon. The style of the music is classic, legitimate musical theater (not rock or pop). It is helpful, but is not required, for cast members to be able to read music.
It is highly suggested that actors read the book, listen to the cast recording, or view one of the film adaptations to familiarize themselves with the show before auditioning.
