Lafayette to Host Celebrated Jazz Musician Miguel Zenon

Critically acclaimed saxophonist Miguel Zenon to premiere his latest work on Nov. 14

Accompanied by a 12-piece band, saxophonist Miguel Zenon will push musical and theatrical boundaries during a multi-media performance at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Lafayette College’s Williams Center for the Arts.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling the box office at (610) 330-5009 weekdays between the hours of noon to 2 p.m. and 4-5 p.m.

The piece, titled Identities Are Changeable: Tales From the Diaspora, is a thrilling counterpoint of music, language and images, cross-cutting between Puerto Rico and New York, all about living contrapuntally; the split focus of Puerto Rican Americans’ cultural identity, and the basic question of who someone really is, by virtue of family, language, ritual, neighborhood, and memory.

Zenon is a multiple Grammy nominee and MacArthur Fellow. He has recorded over seven albums as a group leader, and more than 50 as a sideman. He is renowned in the jazz community for his ability to bridge the gap between traditional music and the work of young innovators.

The performance is presented by the Williams Center for the Arts. WDIY 88.1 FM, Lehigh Valley Community Public Radio is the College’s media partner for the Jazz Masters series.
