Lafayette College is hosting a live art auction from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5 to benefit the installation of artwork along the Karl Stirner Arts Trail in Easton, Pa.

Eighteen exceptional pieces of work ranging in value from $1,500 to $16,000 and representing a diverse range of artists and disciplines will be up for bid. If the auction raises $50,000, an anonymous patron has agreed to match the amount by donating another $50,000.

Artists who donated work include: David Kimball Anderson, Stephen Antonakos, Brandon Balangee, Berrisford Boothe, Nancy Cohen, Willie Cole, Vicki DaSilva, Mel Edwards, Curlee Raven Holton, William Lamson, Emil Lukas, Loren Madsen, Paul Matthews, Karl Stirner, Steve Tobin and Jim Toia.

Their work can be viewed online or at the Williams Visual Arts Building, 243 N. Third St., Easton, the week of the event.

The auction will be held at the College’s Pfenning Alumni Center, 352 Hamilton St. Doors open at 3 p.m. and the auction begins at 4 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door and include appetizers, an open bar and the opportunity to bid for quality art. Live phone bids will be accepted during the auction but require advance registration.

Robert S. Mattison, Marshall R. Metzger Professor of Art History at Lafayette, will serve as auctioneer.

The Karl Stirner Arts Trail is a scenic 2.4 mile path running along the Bushkill Creek from the old Simon Silk Mill on 13th Street to Lafayette’s new Williams Arts Campus on Third Street. Currently, there are five works on the trail, including pieces by Karl Stirner, Willie Cole and Patricia Meyerowitz, a new David Kimball Anderson installation and a rotating Young Master’s Wall that is re-decorated every six weeks.

The auction is being sponsored by the College, the City of Easton and the Bushkill Creek Corridor Council for the Arts. All proceeds from the sale of artwork will be received by the City of Easton and the Greater Easton Development Partnership.
