Orpheus Chamber Orchestra Performs at Lafayette College's Williams Center for the ArtsVocalists Nathan Gunn and Sasha Cooke join the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra for the world premiere of Earth Echoes at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Lafayette’s William Center for the Arts, 317 Hamilton St.

Cooke is a rising star on the stage of opera and song and Gunn, a Grammy award-winning vocalist, has won accolades in both musical theater and opera.

Earth Echoes is inspired by Mahler’s masterpiece The Song of the Earth (1908), and accompanies Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No.5 in C minor. The composer is Pulitzer Prize-winning Augusta Reed Thomas, whose Earth Echoes draws together works from 19 poets in a tapestry of meditation and texts.

Prior to the performance at 7 p.m., Jennifer Kelly, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Lafayette, will host a conversation in room 108 of the Williams Center with Orpheus composer Augusta Reed Thomas. It is free and open to the public.
